This image is part of the Colonial Office photographic collection held at The National Archives UK.
Launching Place is a town in Victoria, Australia, 54 km east of Melbourne’s central business district. It is believed that Launching Place is named after the spot on the Yarra River where the logs (freshly cut down in the valley) were floated down the river to be milled in Melbourne.
