Ocean Pier was built in 1914 at the end of Hunter Street, Hobart. The pier witnessed Tasmanian troops departing for the World Wars I and II, the berthing of Antarctic vessels and the exporting of local produce before a devastating fire destroyed it in 1948 where it was reported that the flames from the fire reached 100 feet and 50,000 cases of apples were lost.
