This image is part of the Colonial Office photographic collection held at The National Archives UK.
Ocean Pier was built in 1914 at the end of Hunter Street, Hobart. The pier witnessed Tasmanian troops departing for the World Wars I and II, the berthing of Antarctic vessels and the exporting of local produce before a devastating fire destroyed it in 1948 where it was reported that the flames from the fire reached 100 feet and 50,000 cases of apples were lost.
